How to quit painkiller addiction?

Question by Katie: How to quit painkiller addiction?
I have a friend who is addicted to painkillers (Loratab i believe). They finally realized how it is affecting them mentally and financially so they decided that they want to quit. My friend doesn’t have any health insurance so they can’t go to a facility or anything. Any tips for my friend?

Tell her to take only 1 pill every other day. Slowly deduct a day until she is no longer taking them. If she stops them all at once she will crash hard.

weening in a very good way to do it
slowly reduce the amount of painkillers theyre taking (maybe take two or three less per week) and keep reducing the amount until they dont need them anymore
Its not going to be easy for them detoxing isnt fun but its important they dont stop outright, they could go into cardiac arrest; theyll try to sneak pills, theyll cry, theyll fight, theyll get angry, theyll beg, but most importantly theyll need a friend or family member to be around and enforce it until theyve been weened.
Good luck! more power to ya
