How long does it take for you to become addicted to painkillers?

Question by Hi: How long does it take for you to become addicted to painkillers?
OK for the past 4 days I’ve been taking 3 painkillers each day. So basically I took 12 painkillers in the past 4 days. But I’m scared if I become addicted to it. I take painkillers (the strong ones) because of a really bad backache.

Will I become addicted to them. Please help, I don’t want to.
I take Nurofen

I hate to tell you this, but yes you will. What kind???? I know plenty of people that quickly became addicted, and they were taking them as prescribed!!!! Eventuallyy as with any drug your body will feel as though it needs it.Best advice to you, talk to your Dr. about it,he can probably give you something nonnarcodic.

3 a day can get you addicted just stop now because you wont be sick AKA withdrawals i used to take oxycontin and roxicodone all day every day and getting off that stuff was the worst experience of my life so far i still cant sleep well even tho im over the withdrawal thank god just stop now while you can without any problems because soon your going to be in love with them and your life will slowly change to revolve around the addiction

Yes it’s quite addicting. I stop taking pain killers after the first day because of how it made me feel (Foot surgery). I just dealt with the pain because I did not want to take the risk. Take it twice a day and see if you feel the need for the med and not necessarily for the pain. Then that’s how you know if your addicted.

    Good Luck,

nurofen is not addictive so you can take them for as long as you need to.
With strong pain killers there a 2 problems. 1. Tolerance/dependence and addiction. Addiction is an abnormal behaviour where people seek large quantities of opioid for other reasons that what they were prescribed for (getting “high” or money or whatever). Dependence occures in Everyone taking opioids for more that 14 days and is normal and can be managed by reducing the dose gradually.
